he Texel Sheep come from the Texel island in the Netherlands. Their heads are barren of wool and are covered solely by short white hair. The species has a short neck but it is still proportional to its body. The eyes are lively and wide apart, the nostrils are dark and the ears are large and do not have wool. The lips, mucous membranes and nails should be dark colored. They have a harmonious, muscular body and a broad chest.
This is a heavy breed specialized in the production of soft and juicy meat. They are producers of good quality wool, have high sexual precocity and are capable of very good daily weight gains. They have high fertility and are used in several crosses of herds.
At 70 days of age, males reach 27 kg and females 23 kg.
The prolificacy is around 1.6 lambs per lambing. The sheep reach weights of 110 to 120Kg and adult females 80 to 90Kg.
